NIC Faculty Spotlight: Mary Crawford-Mohat, Faculty Mentor
We asked Faculty Mentor Mary Crawford-Mohat what has been most rewarding about her work with the Carnegie Math Pathways. Her response:
“The empowerment that students get from success, when they haven’t seen much success. And when they say that they have used the math they have learned [in Quantway] outside of class and in other classes, I always get a smile on my face.”
Mary has been a crucial part of the Carnegie Math Pathways since the beginning, where she piloted the original lessons, rewrote lessons, and helped to build assessments. She joined the Pathways because she knew that the current developmental math system was broken and wanted to do something different in her classroom. Mary continues her leadership efforts in the Pathways through her work on the Curriculum Team, Assessment Team, Staying Strong, and as a Faculty Mentor for several SUNY institutions in the network.
Mary is grateful for the connections and valued relationships she has developed with peers across the NIC. She would also like to thank the SUNY system for supporting the Carnegie Math Pathways and empowering faculty within the system. In her free time, Mary enjoys skiing, camping, and boating with her family.
Thanks for all that you do, Mary!
